Day 278 - It's All Tomatoes


It's all tomatoes here at the moment, yesterdays pickings were added to with onions, celery, lots of garlic and dried herbs, all of which were homegrown, and from the store cupboard half a tube of tomato puree and a couple of cans of chopped tomatoes and turned into ten tubs of garlicky tomato sauce that is now in the freezer in an assortment of plastic tubs.

This will be used in all sorts of recipes over the coming winter, giving us the fresh taste of our own tomatoes for months to come.


Some of them, as in the photo at the top were roasted with garlic and onion for half an hour in the oven and then turned into another pan of delicious tomato soup.  While all this was cooking we tucked into a bowl of Leek and Potato soup from the freezer.

It really has turned chilly here and soup is our go to lunch at the moment, and it's nice to know that we have a good stash ready made.

  1. Lovely you just can't beat a soup, I did Roasted butternut squash at the weekend and had with cheese scones, it was delicious.

  2. I had home made tomato vegetable soup today. Someone has given me lots of apples so tomorrow I will be making chutney using your recipe. It was delicious last year. I am more organised this year and have been saving up my jam jars.
